mathilda longboards

We came across Mathilda Longboards through the German Longboard scene. Some people told us about these down-to-earth guys that build exceptional custom Longboards with an attitude. We were very intrigued and thought we should find out what this is all about.

Who is Mathilda Longboards?

Mathilda Longboards consists of three people. Pascal and Marc produce all the boards locally in their workshop. Pascal is mostly responsible for designing and prototyping while Marc is in charge for marketing and the website. Our good friend Michl joined in later and works as tester and photographer.

What makes your boards so unique?

We sell longboards because we want to share our love for riding longboards. That’s why we started Mathilda-Longboards. While there are so many big companies selling longboards all over the world, we wanted to be present when our customers step onto their new board and take their first ride through town, we wanted to witness their first flip and the expression on their face when pulling their first slide. So we started producing for people we met in the street who were fascinated when we were passing by. Since then a lot has happened and we are not just selling boards to people from our hometown Darmstadt anymore. Nevertheless, our ideology didn’t change. Every board we make is handcrafted and we hope that their owners will be as happy riding it as we were making them. If that is the case, we've got everything we need to keep going.

How did you get the idea to start producing your very own boards?

Out of money problems. We had friends who were longboarding back then. We were having a go on their boards but since we were stoked and wanted more, it wasn't enough just to borrow a board from a friend every now and then. But buying one was out of the question because we were studying and all the jobs we took aside brought just about enough money to pay rent and food. So we started building boards ourselves. The material wasn't as expensive and we thought it would be fun to build our own boards and a great way to get exactly the shapes we wanted. We did still have to buy the trucks and the wheels, but ultimately it gave us the opportunity to experiment. And if a board would break (which happened a lot in the experimenting phase) we could manufacture a new one in a short period of time without having to spend another 200 bucks.

How many boards do you have on offer?

We have four different boards on offer and are currently working on a fifth one. We also build complete custom boards and can also tailor our regular boards to your individual needs.
The four boards on the website are "Der lange Lui" and "Waltzing Mathilda", which are two boards with cutouts, a long and a short version, and "Prinz Emil" and "Karoline", a pin tail and a his little sister. The 5th is a drop-through with cutouts and this fella is a lot stiffer than the others, because it has one layer of carbon in addition to the fiberglass layers we normally use.

Many Youspotters live outside of Germany. What’s your shipping policy?

At the moment we generally produce on demand and mostly for people in Germany. It’s no problem shipping to people outside of Germany but the shipping costs depend on where we are sending the boards to. In general we can ship to everywhere in the world via DHL so if you like our boards and come from outside Germany just send us an email or give us a call and we can see how much the shipping will be.

Thanks for the interview and keep up the good work!
