Interview with Flor from Garnier Crew

Flor Garnier is a fashion design artist with great style and currently Product and Design Chief at Argentinean label DOMA LEATHER.
More importantly (for us) she is well into downhill skateboarding and producing customized leather downhill suits.
When we visited Flor’s Crew website garniercrew.com for the first time we was quite impressed with the level of detail they ask of people in order to create the perfect suit.
Enough reasons to ask her a couple of questions:
Hey Flor,
Please tell us a couple of things about you. Where you from? What you do? And what do you like doing most?
I'm from Argentina, based in Buenos Aires, as fashion designer I've been working in the leather industry for 5 years, so I may say I'm specialized in the area.
Who’s the Garnier Crew and what is it all about?
We're building the crew, the idea is to sponsorize teams and riders, depending on the case, and we offer to some riders to upload their profile so they can get sponsors beyond our website. That's the main idea.
When did you start to longboarding?
I do not do longboard (I should...!), I design the suits and look the better way for you to get a good custom suit.
How did you get into fashion?
I started studying with a designer in 1999, and then started to work with him and went to study fashion design at University of Buenos Aires.
When and how did you start making downhill suits?
I started a few months ago, making suits for some Argentine riders, and then we began to make for another countries.
Tell us a bit more about your suits and your philosophy.
I’m thinking fashion vs functionality? That's the philosophy. To make functional longboard suits, custom and fitted, with modern designs which has to be with boards sports such as surf, etc,
How is your work at DOMA influencing the style of the suits?
I would tell that my work at GARNIER is influencing Doma collections the last 2 seasons...! Now I'm working together with my boyfriend, Juan Angel Redondo (REDO) who's a recognized illustrator and artist, so both Doma and GARNIER are changing and growing in its aesthetic with our creative's ideas.
How do you produce your suits?
We produce them totally handmade, each suit is different from the others and we have a direct feedback permanently with the riders.
How much do we have to pay for a custom-made downhill suit?
The suit costs USD750, and we have special offers for teams or group of or more 3 riders.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes we do.
Where can people see your portfolio?
You can look at my personal portfolio at www.florgarnier.com and GARNIER website, www.garniercrew.com
How do you feel about fashion in skateboarding and extreme/fun sports in general?
I think the sport is growing fast, but you need a special brand for longboard, not moto suit adapted for the sport, and with the IGSA regulations the sport will grow up better.
What is your biggest achievement to date?
My biggest achievement is to build my own brand, with a lot of effort, enjoying it and taking my time to improve it and explore more.
Any last words?
Soon you'll be able to custom the suit yourself in the website ;)
Thanks for the interview Flor. We really like your work and wish you all the best for the future. Here are a few more pictures from Flor´s work and her designs:
